What you’ll learn on this page:

Auto parts SEO and GEO (“generative engine optimization” for AI) strategies with step-by-step processes that are proven to work.
Automotive SEO case studies showing how to get on Page 1.
SEO and AI techniques for enterprise eCommerce accounts with large parts catalogs, down to small specialty parts and accessories retailers.
Auto parts SEO and GEO is very different from general eCommerce optimization used in other markets. That’s because search behavior is driven by vehicle fitment, part types, and compatibility instead of just product categories. SEO strategies have to factor in catalog size, vehicle-specific long-tail queries, and structured data (schema) to help search engines interpret technical specs.
When a site is optimized correctly, the most relevant content will show for searches that might include part numbers or crossover part numbers, year/make/model, engine displacement, part function and categories, market category like off-road or performance, and more.
Optimizing for SEO in the auto parts industry is a deceptively simple concept: Match search intent and search keywords to website content.
People shopping for parts search in predictable ways. There are six main search patterns used by DIY and enthusiast consumers. The pie chart illustrates these search patterns.
Part search, modified by vehicle fitment like year/make/model, or engine platform, etc.
Part number search including crossover part numbers (important for OEM parts).
Informational search like “what,” “who,” “where,” or “how,” including vehicle fitment; important for AI search.
Symptom search like “how,” “what” or “when.”
Brand search, which can include reviews and comparisons to other brands.
Category search, which is usually top of funnel (think of categories on a website).
These strategies work for AI optimization, too, whether you call it GEO (generative engine optimization), AEO (answer engine optimization), AISEO (artificial intelligence search engine optimization), or just SEO. In fact, informational search and symptom search are popular uses for AI platforms.
We know these unique strategies required for effective SEO and AI work, from 2 decades of ongoing research and testing. We’ve done extensive research on search intent for parts and accessories shoppers, as well as automotive keyword data, analytics data, and AI search trends.
This is also based on analysis of six of Google’s AI search patents to understand how auto parts show up in Google AI Overviews.
Automotive eCommerce catalogs can contain tens or hundreds of thousands of SKUs, especially if product data comes from a large warehouse distributor that drop ships. That many SKUs makes manual optimization impractical. Scalable SEO for large eCommerce sites uses dynamic title and description generation, programmed schema markup (often using plugins), and taxonomy that let search engines understand what’s on the page.
This approach to SEO is important with the rise of agentic AI agents doing the shopping. Your website needs clear product descriptions answering questions for AI, not just bullet points of technical specs.
Your ACES and PIES data needs to be accurate. Realistically, that means taking responsibility to check your product data. Just because data is validated for ACES, that doesn’t always mean it is technically correct. Incorrect data affects your SEO.
E-E-A-T is extremely important for websites. That stands for Experience, Expertise, Authority and Trustworthiness.
Why does this matter? Google has an E-E-A-T algorithm that evaluates web pages and websites. Your E-E-A-T score is an important SEO ranking signal.
Google and AI must trust your website or you won’t get citations. Google’s E-E-A-T algorithm, and the equivalent algorithms used by AI, drives today’s AI search results.
You also need engaging content based on EAST, which stands for Engagement, Answers, Solutions and Topics. Here’s why: Page engagement—measured by time spent on a page, scrolling depth and bounce rate—is an important ranking signal. Answers, Solutions and Topics also ties into what works for AI search.
This is a more powerful SEO strategy than just focusing on keywords, because it produces high-quality content that ranks for words, phrases and for topics. Google ranks web page quality by evaluating the content, and in turn matches search results based on search intent.
