A: The Google Merchant Center is a platform that lets eCommerce retailers add product data and information, so that the products can appear in Google Shopping ad campaigns, Google Performance Max campaigns, and free Shopping listings on Google. Your Google Merchant Center account lets you manage product inventory as it appears on Google, and can be used for reporting and for identifying trends.
A: One way to optimize a data feed for Google Shopping is to use the available spaced in the product title field (150 characters) and product description field (5,000 characters). You can add additional information on product descriptions, material, size, or vehicle fitment such as year, make, model or drivetrain. Another way is to add missing product attributes. If a product data feed already exists from your website, it can be optimized using supplemental feeds and feed rules. There are many ways to improve and optimize a product data feed for Google Shopping, just ask the experts at Hedges & Company.
A: Always check your warnings and disapprovals in your Google Merchant Center. The Hedges & Company data team does this daily. Warnings and disapprovals can come from things like incorrect pricing, mismatched mpn numbers, or even incorrect warnings and disapprovals that come from Google from AI. A product listing that gets a warning won’t show in as many ads, and one that is disapproved won’t show at all. Too many warnings can mean your account could be suspended.
A: The Google Merchant Center uses a data feed for products that appear on your website. This data feed includes information on in-stock status, manufacturer’s part number (mpn), brand, fitment, selling price, sales price, and many more. For online stores using WooCommerce, Shopify, and BigCommerce, product data can be fed directly from your website. For other platforms a product data feed can be used.
