7 Automotive POS Systems Compared
There are many options for an automotive POS system (automotive “point of sale” software) to help you run your auto parts business. Some POS systems branch out into managing inventory, customer records or managing multiple retail locations. Automotive POS systems usually come with an overwhelming list of features to integrate with credit card payment gateways, barcode scanners, printers, Android tables or iPads, cash drawers and other devices.
We thought we’d take a quick look at this important category of auto parts software. Here we compare some of the top POS (point of sale) systems available in the automotive aftermarket. We’re publishing this article because our article on auto parts eCommerce platforms is so popular.
GoDaddy Smart Terminal Point of Sale System
New to the automotive POS field is GoDaddy. They exhibited at the SEMA Show for the first time in 2024, demoing their new POS system to auto shop owners.
Their new system offers fees as low as 2.3% + 0¢ per transaction, the ability to sell unlimited products on your POS, inventory stock alerts, buy online, pickup in store (BOPIS), and the ability to manage roles and permissions. Their Smart Terminals integrate with dozens of apps.
They have many options for their terminals and they’re designed for the counter or to be hand-held. For more, visit the GoDaddy website. If you sell over $100,000 per year, call (855) 681-6213 for a custom quote.
Shopify POS System
Shopify is a widely-used eCommerce platform in the automotive aftermarket, but also has a POS option for brick and mortar stores.
For any type of business as well as automotive, Shopify offers both software and hardware for its POS solution. Or, you can bypass the hardware and use the option to download Tap to Pay to accept payments on your own iPhone. If you opt to use Shopify’s hardware you can get a tap or chip reader device (currently just $49), a counter top retail kit ($219), or you can use their mobile POS Go device (currently $299).
Shopify POS cost
The Shopify POS Lite plan is included with Shopify eCommerce plans at no extra cost. Shopify POS Pro is $89/month per location and gets you advanced inventory reporting and more staff access.
Shopify uses Shopify Payments to process credit cards, accepting VISA, Mastercard, American Express and Discover, as well as Apply Pay and Google Pay. Shopify Payments has a $29/month option for smaller businesses and goes up to $299/month for larger businesses, but their plans all offer the first three months at just $1. Shopify credit card fees for in-person transactions start at 2.7% per transaction for their Basic plan, and drop to 2.4% per transaction for the Advanced Plan. There are no additional fees per in-person transaction, unlike when Shopify Payments is used for online transactions.
One advantage with Shopify is that if you run a Shopify eCommerce store and you have one or more brick and mortar locations you can integrate your online store with your physical store.
